Statics Bike
Description:
- A wooden bike designed as part of my Statics class
- The bike is inspired by I-beams
Objectives:
- Improve skills with Fusion and SolidWorks
- Learn how to use a CNC router
Collaborators:
Constraints:
- Bike must be created with one 4×4 sheet of 1/2″ plywood
- Can only use stock 1/4″ hardware
- Must be cut out on a CNC router
- Uses a prefabricated steer column
Manufacturing:
- The frame was cut on the CNC and assembled with stock hardware.
- Clever use of dog-bone CNC joints allowed us to assemble the frame with minimal hardware
Design:
- The frame was designed with Fusion’s robust configuration manager
- The final design was made in SolidWorks
- The frame is designed to looks like a series of I-beams
Finished Project:
- After assembling the bike was race as part of the annual UD statics bike race
- While the bike did not win the race, it did win best design
- It now sits on display in Spencer Lab at UD
